When it’s time to dine in Hell’s Kitchen, readers agreed once more that West Bank Cafe was the place to go for a true neighborhood feel, live performances and high-quality cuisine. The 2023 winner, currently in the process of raising funds to stay open, has retained its top billing among regulars for, as reader Carmen Lamar Daehler put it, its “ambiance, food (including vegan options), lovely bar, gorgeous cabaret venue and wonderful staff.” Carmen added, “We always enjoy dining there for special events and to bring our out-of-town friends.” A sentiment that was echoed by reader William Dangerfield, who told us that “I have had every special occasion in my life at this restaurant. Their food is delicious and their service is outstanding.”

Many readers also cited West Bank owner and previous Hell’s Hero winner Steve Olsen as their reason to return. “Steve Olsen is the best host ever,” said reader Joel Bernstein. “I’ve been going ever since the place opened — it’s warm and inviting; staff is great; menu and food preparation and service all consistently top-notch. Went to eat in and also get takeout during the pandemic; Steve has always been there for our neighborhood. Bravo!!”
